Serious workplace injuries caused by overhead power line

Construction company owners in Oklahoma are responsible for the health and safety of their employees. This is no easy task, considering the many safety hazards with which construction workers have to deal. If employers fail to provide comprehensive safety training to ensure workers are aware of the dangers, workplace injuries will occur.

One of many deadly hazards to which construction workers are frequently exposed is electric power lines. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has strict regulations related to construction work near power lines, but these rules are often disregarded. One such an incident left a construction worker with serious burn wounds earlier this month.

Reportedly, a worker was in the bucket of a lift truck that was elevated to allow him to work between two overhead power lines. Emergency workers who responded to the scene say the man suffered severe burns on one shoulder and hand when he accidentally backed into one power line. Employers should not allow such work to be done while cables are energized.

After suffering third-degree burns, this construction worker will likely have to face high medical bills and lost wages. Workers in Oklahoma who are suffering the consequences of workplace injuries may pursue financial assistance that is provided by the workers’ compensation insurance system. An attorney who is experienced in this field of the law can provide support and guidance with the navigation of the process to claim benefits. The benefits typically cover medical expenses along with a portion of lost income. If burn injuries cause permanent disability, additional benefits may be awarded.
