Oklahoma workplace safety is a topic of discussion

| Oct 31, 2016 | Workplace Injuries

If you drive about an hour and a half northeast of Tulsa, you will come to the town of Miami. That is where Commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Labor Melissa Houston recently spoke to a group of community leaders on a variety of subjects.

As you probably know, the department Houston oversees helps keep workplaces in our state safe. In fact, in her speech, Houston spoke about workplace safety, regulation and overtime, among other topics.

She says the Department of Labor is there to help small businesses keep workers safe. In that way, workplace injuries can be reduced.

She said the department will offer firms a free consultation on workplace safety, as well as advice on how best to reduce risks for workers. They will also walk through an inspection of the type the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) conducts and give owners a report on their findings, an area newspaper reported.

Her department also oversees regulation of amusement park rides, which she says is the favorite part of her job. “That’s the only thing my kids think is cool about this job,” the mother of two said. “Mommy goes and checks out roller coasters.”

Unfortunately, after a workplace injury, many businesses and insurers try to deny legitimate claims for workers’ compensation. While they are trying to unfairly protect their bottom lines, our law firm protects the rights of workers and helps people get the full compensation to which they are entitled.
