Workplace injury results in death for construction worker

Accidents on the job can be devastating to co-workers. This may be especially true if a co-worker causes the accident. A workplace injury or death in Oklahoma may change the lives of many people, which is why safety is such an important concern. Employees who work around heavy equipment may be particularly vulnerable to serious, life-changing accidents.

Recently, a construction company in another state learned first-hand the importance of taking safety precautions. The excavation company was contracted to construct a driveway at a private residence. Late one afternoon, a man driving a dump truck backed up without noticing another worker behind him. The worker became pinned between the dump truck and a second construction vehicle that was parked on the jobsite.

A witness working at the house next door heard screaming and went to the scene. He saw the man lying on the ground behind the dump truck and heard the dump truck driver repeating that he was afraid he had killed his co-worker. Police are still investigating the incident to determine whether they will file charges against the truck driver.

Like many in Oklahoma and across the country who lose a loved one following a workplace injury, the family of the deceased man may already have contacted an attorney for help in claiming the workers' compensation death benefits they are likely due. These benefits may be needed in order for the family to pay for the man's funeral expenses and to support themselves without the man's income. An attorney experienced in handling these types of claims can provide ongoing guidance and support in pursuing all applicable monetary claims.
